In this walking tour we visit Paralia Katerini, Greece, at six in the evening on a 31 degree day at the end of June. Around 1,000 people live here year round. In summer the town holds roughly 50 times that number, and this is what that actually looks like on the ground.
Paralia was founded in 1922 by fishermen who arrived as refugees from Kios in Asia Minor. It grew into the resort that Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Romania now book out every July and August. The name simply means beach in Greek.
The walk starts at the central square by the seafront, passes the church of Agia Fotini, and then follows the main pedestrian shopping street. It picks up Nikis Street and the bus plaza behind it before coming back to the square. Mount Olympus sits directly behind the town, and Katerini city is eight kilometres inland. We filmed here once before in early June. This is the peak season version.
