This is a calm walk around Lake Zagorka in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria – the city’s best spot for sport fishing, right next to the famous Zagorka brewery. A full loop on a warm, sunny September day, with birdsong, anglers and wildlife all the way around.
The man-made lake is fed by the Bedechka River and was built under mayor Yordan Kapsamunov, who ran the city from 1952 to 1962. It takes its name from the brewery next door, which has been making beer here since 1902.
Fishing is run by the local sport fishing club, and you will see anglers along most of the path. Keep watching around the 7-minute mark for a catch. Big carp over 5 kg always go straight back into the water.
Further on, geese rest by the shore and a group of nutria climb out of the water to feed on the bank. Near the end, the walk passes Park Hotel Stara Zagora and the water bikes.
