In this walking tour we visit Albena, Bulgaria – one of the largest all-inclusive resorts on the Black Sea coast, and one most people outside the package holiday market have never heard of. Even Bulgarians rarely come here. It was built from nothing in the 1960s and never became a town, so there are no residential streets and no permanent population, just over 40 hotels between the pine hills and the sea.
We start on the beach and the promenade, then ride an electric rickshaw through the whole resort to see how the place is laid out. After that we walk the promenade again, cross the central area with the main shopping street, and finish on the route most visitors take from the bus stop and car park down to the water.
The beach is the reason people come. It runs for about 6 kilometres and reaches 150 metres wide in places, and the sea stays shallow far out from the shore. On the way to it you pass the horse riding base, the tennis courts and the aquapark.
