First Impressions & Overview

From the moment we arrived at Hotel “The Five Elements,” the vibe was instantly calming. Tucked right at the foot of the majestic Rila Mountains, this 4-star gem feels like a true sanctuary. We found the check-in process to be totally seamless, but it’s the atmosphere that really grabs you—it’s modern, clean, and infused with that warm Bulgarian hospitality. Whether it’s the friendly smiles at reception or thoughtful touches like complimentary wine and cake for birthdays, we were made to feel right at home from the second we walked through the door.

Location & Accessibility

The location is a total winner for us. We were right in the heart of Sapareva Banya, home to the only 103°C geyser-fountain in continental Europe, which is just a casual five-minute walk from the hotel. For nature lovers, it’s the ultimate base camp – we were only about 40 minutes away from the trailhead to the iconic Seven Rila Lakes. Plus, if you’re coming from Sofia, it’s a quick and easy 1.5-hour drive (about 80 km), making it perfect for a weekend escape.

The Room: Double Room

During our stay, we occupied one of the Double Rooms, and they are impressively spacious! The decor is tasteful and elegant, but more importantly, the comfort level is a solid 10/10. One thing we really appreciated was the climate control; the rooms stay perfectly toasty in the winter and refreshingly cool in the summer. You’ve got all the modern perks like a Smart TV, fast Wi-Fi, and a stocked minibar, plus those high-end extras like plush bathrobes and slippers that make “spa life” that much better.

Food & Drink

Get ready to eat well! The hotel features two on-site restaurants and several bars, including a great lobby bar for evening drinks. The buffet breakfast was a major highlight for us – super fresh, incredibly clean, and packed with everything from seasonal fruits to local cheeses and pastries. If you want to explore local flavors, there are plenty of traditional Bulgarian restaurants just a 3-minute walk away, though the hotel’s own menu is so diverse and reasonably priced we almost didn’t want to leave.

Facilities & Amenities

The wellness area is the undisputed “crowning jewel” of the property. Since they use the local healing mineral waters—famous for treating joint and musculoskeletal issues – the spa is next-level. Here is what we enjoyed:

  • Pools galore: Three large swimming pools and dedicated kids’ pools.
  • Relaxation: Five jacuzzis, three hot mineral baths, and multiple saunas and steam baths.
  • Medical Spa: Professional programs for everything from stress reduction to immunity.
  • For the Pro: Excellent conference facilities and even a billiard table for some downtime.

+ What we liked
Incredible Spa Zone: The variety of mineral pools and jacuzzis is world-class.
Prime Location: You can walk to the geyser and local shops in minutes.
Top-Tier Staff: Genuinely friendly and professional service throughout.
Spacious Rooms: Exceptionally clean, cozy, and well-designed.
Room for improvement
Weekend Buzz: It’s a popular spot! It can get a bit overcrowded on weekends, so if you want total peace and quiet, we suggest trying a midweek stay.
Minor Maintenance: Like any high-traffic resort, you might see a minor maintenance tweak needed here or there, but nothing that dampened our experience.
Our verdict
Hotel “The Five Elements” is a haven for anyone looking to hit the reset button. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a fun family retreat, the combination of healing mineral waters and top-notch service makes it a standout choice. It’s luxury that doesn’t feel stuffy—just pure, mountain-air relaxation. We’d recommend booking well in advance, especially for weekends, because this place fills up fast for a reason!
