If you’re dreaming of a mountain getaway that doesn’t break the bank but still feels like a real treat, you’ve got to check out Hotel Lion in Borovets. We recently stayed here, and it’s the kind of place that makes us want to grab a hot cocoa and stare at the snow-covered trees all day. Whether we were there to shred the slopes or just breathe in that crisp Rila Mountain air, this spot hit a really sweet note between comfort and value for us.

First Impressions & Overview
Right from the start, Hotel Lion felt to us like a classic mountain lodge but with a polished, four-star edge. The vibe is incredibly chill – it’s tucked away from the noisy center, so we immediately felt that “vacation mode” kick in. We loved the cozy lobby (shoutout to the billiard table!), and the staff were super professional and polite. They really made us feel like they had everything under control from the moment we walked in.

Location & Accessibility
We felt like we got the best of both worlds here. We were in a quiet, peaceful forest setting, yet the hustle and bustle of Borovets center was only about a 10-15 minute walk away. Since we didn’t want to carry gear all the way, we appreciated the shuttle transfer to the lifts, which took only about 10 minutes. It was also a great base for us to visit the Tsarska Bistritsa Palace, which is just a short 3km hop from the hotel.
The Room
We stayed in a Double Room, and it was exactly what we needed after a day outdoors: clean, functional, and surprisingly spacious in the bathroom department (it even had a bathtub!). The rooms had a bit of a traditional feel to them, and while we thought they could use a tiny refresh, they were perfectly comfortable for us. Just a heads-up for couples: the “double” bed is actually two single mattresses pushed together – standard for the region, but worth knowing if you’re a cuddler!

Food & Drink
The breakfast spread was a winner for us. Whether we were in the mood for “bacon and eggs” or preferred a lighter vegetarian start, there was plenty for us to choose from. They have a buffet restaurant for included meals and an à la carte spot if you’re craving specific Bulgarian dishes. We found the food quality to be great, though we noticed that drinks and extra meals at the restaurant are priced a bit higher than in the village.

Facilities & Amenities
The SPA Zone was definitely the highlight of our stay. They’ve got two saunas, a steam bath, a salt room, and an indoor pool. Our favorite part? The outdoor hot tub – there’s nothing quite like being in hot water while looking at the pine trees. We noticed it can get a bit “cozy” when the hotel is full, so we recommend trying to go during off-peak hours. There’s also a small fitness center if we hadn’t had enough of a workout on the slopes!
